United States Silver Certificate Currency
United States Silver Certificate Currency was a common form of paper currency, once upon a time. A silver certificate was redeemable for an equal amount of silver coins. For example, an owner of a $10.00 certificate was able to redeem the note for ten silver dollars. In 1934, Congress passed legislation that allowed the government to exchange silver bullion for the certificates and not simply silver dollars.
